chassis prep, POR 15
« on: June 21, 2017, 06:57:16 AM »
I just pulled the bed (and soon to be pulled cab) off of my '93 f-150. With a wide range of choices of prep materials, any thoughts/ideas as to use? I know and heard POR 15 is good. Do they make a chassis paint or undercoating? I'm looking to rust prep and coat the whole thing.

POR15 has one flaw. Its extremely sensitive to sunlight. So you have to top coat it to protect it from the sun. Otherwise its bad azz at protecting your stuff. There are other brands that also work well. But I know of none that are not damaged by sun light. They all have to be top coated. However chassis black is sold everywhere so its not a big deal to top coat your stuff.
I have an '85 Chevy pickup that I'm playing the same game with right now. My frame is rust scaled up pretty good, and the rust coating process is already under way....

Thanks for the info. I've heard of many other options for POR 15 but I think I'm going to stick with that. Good luck on your project.
