chevy 350 gear drive install help...?

Hello Nation, sorry for the stupid question.  But I'm trying to put on a gear drive on . But I can't even put on the fricken gear on the crank even without the cotter pin seems to catch on something, with about a 1/2inch  to go please help..  :'(  engine is a 1995 chevy 350

The one on my Ford slid right on. It's not a press on is it?Been a LONG time since I've been in a Chevy motor.Did the other gear slid off or was it pulled off with a puller?

You need to get a gear installation tool for the crank gear. You can buy one via comp cams, summit, and most auto parts stores. You can also rent one from like autozone. Tool looks like this:
