Car Trailer Build
« on: May 17, 2014, 03:33:13 PM »
I've been in the automotive hobby for a few decades now, and I've always managed to rent or borrow a car trailer whenever I've needed one. But since joining RRN I've relocated to a remote community where loaner trailers don't exist. I looked at lots of trailers for sale, new and used, and couldn't find anything that met my requirements (most were too narrow), so I've decided to build one to my own specifications. To give me a head start, I located a travel trailer chassis on Craigslist for the bargain price of $250.  It has a 14' deck, 18' overall, 76" inches between fenders, nice and low with leaf springs and brakes. I plan to cut off all the extraneous stuff, add about three crossmembers, and deck it with 2x wood. Should be nice and light for easy pulling but adequately strong for a 2000-lb hot rod.

That is a good buy. I know that I have been looking for several years and just need to break down and buy one. But mine would need to be able to handle my hi-way cruizer.

That is a great buy. I ended up just buying one, but wish sometimes i would have just built one. I got mine for a great price though, just needed some work.
Love building rat rods, driving mustangs, and building websites.
