350 sbc heater hose cap off
« on: December 09, 2012, 04:56:09 PM »
Hey guys, would it be ok to cap off the hoses that go to the manifold & water pump? I'm trying to clean up my engine compartment & dont want those hoses/heater. The hose that came from the manifold is smaller than the one coming out of the pump also.... Your advise would be much appreciated ... Thanks!!

I attached pics of how it looked before & after I made the possibly uglier loop hose... Haha

Yes, capping them is just fine and the way you did it will work, BUT...

I would rather see you plug those heater outlets off than have hot water from the engine recycling right back into the water pump. If you don't want to try unscrewing them from the manifold and water pump to install pipe plugs, you can buy "Bypass Caps" (heater hose outlet caps) at NAPA, rubber covers for the heater outlet bungs. That way hot water is forced back through the radiator.

They sell them in both sizes for your outlets - 5/8 and 3/4 if I remember right.

I found some at the parts store. 8 of them for 5 bucks. I wasn't sure if I'd need the clamps, so I put'm on anyways. Better safe than sorry.. Right?
