Got it running, still gotta put the driveshaft in and work on the disc brakes. But I pushed it in the shop this weekend. Replaced the stock fuel line with a 3/8 aluminum line running to the bed for the 16 gallon fuel cell. Then started on the top. Im going to do gold with Large metal flake on the top. I bought some .025 dark gold metal flake and a paint gun with a 2.5mm tip to spray it. Im not sure on the body yet if im going to paint it. I will be installing the new rocker panels I already have since mine are rusted out.

Removing the surface rust.

Removed all the old roof seal..

Worked out a few areas and got it in primer. Now ordering some paint..

This metal flake should really pop in the sun.. We already had some .008 flake but I wanted to go old school on this top.

I did a '65 many years ago with a 468" BBC and a turbo 400. Couldn't keep tires on it unless we stuck slicks on it! That makes a whale of a combination for the street!! We hung a Suburban gas tank under the bed in the rear and it had 34 gal. capacity!  You could really hook it up when the tank was full on slicks. Used a Dana 60 with 456:1 gear and a set of Strange axles.

Love the extra room when the tank is removed from the cab!  We put air and power steering on it too! That was a nice truck and all slick as a peeled onion. It was the late eighties. There weren't any rat rods around then!!

Times change!!  Back then it was, "You ain't cool if your chrome don't shine!"  But on the good side, billet bullish!t hadn't taken over either!!

Me too Wheels,, Its my first time using this big flake.

Blackwater, this truck already had powersteering and tilt wheel out of a Monte Carlo when we bought it. I did pick up a Hang On AC unit out of a 69 C10 a couple years ago. May or may not use it. Probably not with the big block. The 305 has a AC compressor on it now but its should be coming out in the spring for the 402. The truck has some 3.08s in it now but I plan on putting some 3.73s back in it. It also has a 2600 stall in it. The 3.08s will be fine for cruising though.

I rana big block in an old Suburban for a while. It was my tow vehicle for the race cars. I put A/C on it using factory brackets and parts. One of the best A/Cs I've ever had!! When the truck wore out I put everything into an '80 Malibu. Did you know GM made all of the pieces to do that swap?? Mounted the A/C and everything under the hood with a set of headers and Flowmaster mufflers. You talk about a sleeper!!

It was the old A6 compressor and it would freeze you out of the car!!

Next day, looks like it laid down good.

Started installing my shifter, some gauges and my old JVC radio I got back in 1991 for this truck. I took this radio out probably 10 years ago so that it wouldnt get stolen while I let the truck sit.

Now im getting an Idea of painting the whole truck outside Gold with burgundy scallops to compliment the inside. My mom and dad did all the interior work 25 years ago so I am keeping it like it is. I am recovering the seat and visors.

WOW  That gold looks good Didja have any problems with those big @$$ flakes? Looks like they would clog the tips. Didja use a gravity flow or a conventional gun?

I used a gravity feed. I purchased a cheap gun off ebay with a 2.5mm tip that was made for spaying these large flakes. I used it on the first 2 coats then switch over to my finishline for the last 2 coats. There is just a little bit of orange peel. But once I sand it with some 1K and buff it should looks great. Im not painter, but my dad has painted cars since 72. I grew up watching him paint and have done some painting on my own autos over the years. This was the first time I have held a paint gun in 3 years. All in all im happy with it. Going to start pulling parts off later and painting them. Just need to get this back on the road and get started on my 55 Buick.

Now looking at some other old school flake jobs, im thinking I want to give it a good wet sand and put another couple coats of heavy flakes on and then a few more coats of clear on that. I love the heavy metal flake that is in the oldies.

Would love to achieve this someday..

Had some time to work on the truck so I jumped on it. Adjusted the valves and installed my new power booster combo. I was letting it run and noticed that the oil pressure was dropping. It went from 50 psi to 5 psi but would jump up when I revved it. I checked the dipstick and it was overfull. Yeap full of gas. I had blew the power valve when I first put the motor in and had the distributor 180 out. So I put in a new power valve and changed the oil. Now its back up to 50 psi and running alot better.

The oil splash on the hood is from the oil squirting when I had the valve covers off. Its oiling very well.

The booster was alot easier to install than I expected. I did buy a kit for this truck though. I used the original holes for the bottom on the booster and only had to drill the two top holes. The rod arm and clevis had to be cut about 2 inches but it was very straight forward. I hooked right to the stock peddle with the included hardware. Now I have to install my proportional valve and run some brake lines. Very close to driving it again after 15 years of letting it set.

Blown power valve: I'm surprised it would dump that much fuel. Good thing you were watching the oil pressure.

Pre-bent brake lines: Let us know how well they fit. I'm getting lazy in my old age.

Metalflake paint: Has the rust craze run it's course? I've seen a recent trend for rat rodders to cover their rust buckets with outrageously gaudy metalflake paint jobs. I love it. Here's a friend's Model A pickup I sold him that he ran for years in rust:

Got some more good progress on the truck this week. I found that the fuel pump is putting out 12 psi which was pushing full past my float and flooding the cylinders. Got a regulator on it now set to 6 psi. Swapped out the 750 vac secondary for a 500 Holley 2bbl. This should be enough for the 305. Now its running alot better. I finished installing my brake lines and proportional valve. Bled the brakes till I got enough pedal to drive it. I put my daughter in and we took off down the road. First trip in 15 years for the old truck. I ended up driving it up and down the road about 5 times and each time it felt better. Now to swap out all the brake hoses and wheel cylinders and install my transmission cooler. Hope to start driving it to work, which is a 90 mile round trip, in the next few weeks.

 ;D ;D ;D

Feels good to drive the old truck again.
