Depends --- If it is not finished and it will end up all street slick , then no !!! BUT , if that is finished then yes  --- It's what they are calling """ STREET RATS """ in Europe and Central and South America in places like Rio and San Paulo it's a real cool scene !!! The young folks took oldskool US ratrodding and applied it to common cheap cars they can afford :D :D :D
What is this """ stock restoration """ thing you speak of ????

NO , a line has to be drawn somewhere and to me thats over the line . It looks like a car ready to go into the body shop not a rat rod . Besides how many true rat rods do you see with $6000 dollar 3-piece wheels ? It's a tuner car with out a bumper cover !!!!!!

DID I SAY THERE WAS NOT A TRADITIONAL RAT SCENE THERE ????  lololol I was talking about a """ NEW """ type of rat scene going on You may not like it , hell I don't like it but we don't have to .  And as for the post about the cost of those wheels --- I've seen plenty of true rat builders spend more on vintage Halibrands and remember that many old dudes who have been building since the early years think 50s and 60 can't be ratrods either lololol Let's try not to become the hamb  :(

Different time zone, different culture, different eye on the style. To me a rat is more tradinal hot rodding than any thing else. At the heart of it all is a beginning to where this style was about the only affordable means of hot rodding. And there are a ton of kool ideas that come out of it. The picture of the whatever is clooser to rice than rat.............and hamb Hehehehehe. Dont think so. Been down that road.

Guess I'd be OK with whatever the owner calls it. I understand we don't all have old U.S. tin around to work with.
But the age (too new) lack of rust, foreign (to the U.S. only) and lack of any combining of this and that, kinda put it out of the rat pile to me. I'd call it 'a tuner rat".
pull the body, and put on a 1940's vintage car or truck cab, and you be rat'n.

Since "rat rod" is a relatively new concept (5-6 years????) it is still in flux.  Some take "rat rod" as a cool concept, some are insulted.  It is also obviously branching out at least into "original/survivor" and "rusted beyond saving".  Both good concepts.  I would say that there is probably an implied year cutoff....but what?  Then there are "satin" cars.  Are they just a paintjob  choice, or something new?

I think there are rusty cars that are not rat rods.  I have a 66 F100 that fits that description.  It has rust that doesn't add character.  If I lower it 9 inches and coat it with roll on bedliner, is it a rat rod?

There are satin-finish cars that are not old enough to have character.  The above car seems to be that.  Fuel injected?  Doesn't make it.

Isn't a "ratty" ride more about character and attitude?  I have a 51 F1 that has character, dulled original finish and a little non-lethal naturally grown rust....but the elderly owner with no tattoos or piercings sort of derails the scene.  My wife resists being referred to as "Betty".

I just can't call that first car a rat.......It's different for sure, but it just appears to be a car that is missing body parts......nothing to do with rust, or patina, it just doesn't look like a rat...
