Velocity stacks
« on: August 12, 2012, 02:01:43 AM »
Do you know that velocity stacks from Speedway Motors start at $20 each?  Now I'll tell you how to have cool velocity stacks AND keep your money!  Haunt the flea markets and garage sales where you live until you find some old aluminum or stainless steel tumblers or milkshake machine cups. Cut the bottoms off and, presto, instant velocity stacks for about $1.00 each!

Updated photo with two filters installed - still waiting for NAPA to get the third in stock!

Those look great.
What kind of master cylinder is that on there? looks like I could use that on my build.

'62 Chevy PU clutch/brake combo.  One side controls brake, other side clutch.  You could probably use both sides for brake with an equalizer bar between them.

that is a real space saver , nice and neat . Would it work with a drum / disc brake set up and clutch or just drums / clutch ?

I have really been toying with the idea of a manual trans in my coupe , what type slave cylinder setup are you using ?

I am using it with disc/drums and clutch.  But the big disadvantage of this MC is that it's a single instead of a dual - not ideal for safety.

I built this "Ansen-style"  swing pedal firewall mount then scabbed some pedal arms from scrap steel, 7:1 ratio. You can buy these brackets anywhere for about $100 if you don't want to build one. Just Google "Ansen pedal bracket."  TransDapt sells one,but it's really flimsy.

I also used the 62 Chevy PU slave because I assumed that they were designed to work together. I think any slave of  1" or greater bore would work.

To illustrate how damn much fun it is to jam gears in a rat rod, check out these vids driving the Scrap Rod. I've always had automatics in my hot rods, but this feels LOTS more racy.         "Automatic transmission...is that your MOMMIES rat rod?"   ;D

The reservoir is split correct? Im thinking I could use an equilizer bar, run one to the fronts and the other to the rear. I will be running drums on both just put in some 10psi residual valves. That saves alot of space and looks clean.  8)

Yep, it is divided into two compartments. That would be a good, safe way to plumb your brakes. There is a check valve for the brakes in one side - be sure to remove it if you are running inline check valves.
