Brake pedal/Master cylinder options
« on: December 15, 2018, 03:52:22 PM »
I am looking for a pedal/master cylinder setup for my rat. I bought a setup from ez tbucket but it is too big....anyone know of any small setups that work good? I can use this one but will have to cut my cowl and the pedal bracket will stick out wouldn't be pretty but I am looking at that as an option

I dont have any good pictures of it at the moment. Fo now I have bit the bullet and ordered a wildwood reverse swing pedal setup and see if that will fit.....I hope it does but it was 2.5 times the money

I had thought of that but my floor was already welded in and my truck sits way low so I was afraid to do it that way....hopefully this willwood setup will work it was expensive bit I am sure will be top notch quality wise.

A willwood reverse master cylinder setup tucked in there nicely. Finally had a chance to see what the transmission would do only to find out it has no forward gears so out it comes and I will have to get a rebuilt one.

Looks good. When I rebuilt the AOD I had forward but no reverse unless I slammed it into reverse while moving forward at about 10 mph. Cost me twice Once to build it Twice to have it rebuilt. The cables are REALLY important. They are not kick down but used for pressure.

On MANY of the overdrive transmissions, the installation is as much or more important than the build!!  I LOVE the 700R4 because it is so easy to set up and adjust!  The Ford AODs are a little more complicated, but respond well, IF the throttle linkage is correct and the cables are good.  Wrong cables or bad throttle geometry are much more trouble than on some others.

My AOD is "wired" to be half open at Idle and only increases from there. I found that my EFI only opened the cable about 1/2, so I improvised, adapted and over came. My tranny guy said it'll never work. 2 1/2 plus years and 2 power tours later it's still going strong until now because I bragged on it.

The secret is to find the geometry on the throttle linkage that works with the vehicle and your driving style.  We had a rental truck with one or another of the Ford AOD transmissions in it, and driving back and forth from Nashville to Los Angeles was miserable with the factory settings.  I adjusted it so that it only kicked into passing gear at just short of full throttle and it drove great and got better fuel mileage too.  Now that stuff is computer controlled and you need a re-programming device to adjust almost EVERYTHING!!!
