To rust or not
« on: February 19, 2013, 07:11:38 PM »
I have a general question to you guys about rust.

I am pondering glass beading my 47 and preserving what's left of the tin, but I love the rust in peace patina.

How do ya'all rate on this subject.  To preserve or not preserve.

Is there any thoughts on clear coating the rust to slow it down?

My brother in law used to say when he was living "rust never sleeps".  He was an old harley guy from the 60s era.

 What are your thoughts?

Keep the rust ! It looks to awesome and took many years to get there , Wipe it down with linseed oil and skip the clear coat mess. The linseed will even give it a sheen and pretty much stop it from rusting any more !  8)

I oiled it up today with a gallon on raw linseed oil.  That rusty metal was thirsty..

I personally think that gives a rat rod a kewl look. Gonna do the same thing on the 32 Hudson when I get it just a little closer to completion.

Now I can sleep better at night knowing the rust has been slowed down some...I know right.
