I've got a lot of the car built, but here's my first mostly full mock-up; what do you guys think?

Thanks guys, much appreciated! I'm going to get started on the front suspension soon and I've decided to do a combination of torsion bars and air shocks so that I can raise and lower the front end. I've never seen it done, so it should be interesting. More to follow on that...

Is there any reason that I can't invert the batwings to lower the hairpins?

Even up on blocks and jackstands it still looks low!  Huge gas tank, interesting extended firewall (for foot room I presume).

As far as reversing the batwings, I don't see why not, except it may screw with your caster. That would be easy to compensate for.
But be careful: my buddy Michael's car has low hairpins and they scrape everywhere.

Love it .... perfect example of a rat rod.

My build ... torsion bars from a Ford explorer ... shocks not mounted yet ... can't really see them but I can get some better pics in a few weeks.  When I go back together with it ... right now it's down for welding.

Another project .... another therapy session

Yeah, in the pics it's mocked up with the frame at ground level. I made the gas tank out of a 23 gallon propane tank that I sliced and diced; I'm guessing that it should hold about 15 gallons or so. I got lucky on the patina, it matches pretty well.

Good catch on the firewall, most that have seen it don't seem to notice. It was pretty mangled when I got it, so I took the opportunity to extend it 2.5" while I was rebuilding it, partly for leg room but it also gives it a unique look and doesn't make the engine look like it's too far forward. One of my goals is to be looking out the door window and not looking around the B pillar all the time; I think that I've managed to achieve that.

Thanks for the info on the hairpins!

Here are a few pics:

That's some good fab skills you got there .... and your right about the patina on that tank .... looks like it was born there.

How much lift are you getting on the rear with that setup?  Mine is about the same setup and I only get about 8 inches with D2600 bags. Which is enough but since my front stays at 6 inches clearance ... the rear lifts to give it that wheel barrow effect.  I get 4 inches clearance about mid frame .... wonder if that is enough?

Thanks for the compliment! Actually I've been kind of winging it as it's all in my head but it is turning out like I pictured it.

As far as lift goes, I haven't a clue as I have yet to put air to it, but it will be far more than I'll need I'm sure.

Here's how that gas tank started out:

I just wanted to add one more pic:

Glad you added that pic which raises a question.

Is that green on the firewall a reflection off the engine ? Or, did you drive it so fast some of the engine paint blew off on to it.  LOL

I don't see any green, but I am a bit color blind. Speaking of engine paint, I've been thinking about Plum Crazy Purple.
