2012 Dodge Charger, my daily driver
« on: November 08, 2015, 09:02:12 AM »
Not sure how many know, but my daily driver is a 2012 Dodge Charger r/t. The car didn't come with fog lights, so I bought an oem fog light kit. After messing around with that stupid 1965 ford truck, I got around to installing the fog light kit. Reading the instructions, these lights are not going to work until I pay dodge to put the fog lights option in the cars computer. They want $160.00 bucks to tell my charger it now has fog lights. What a joke in my opinion. I have the cost of the oem kit and now have to add another 160.00 bucks to that cost. Hard to believe dodge has things set up to continue making money off your car well after you've bought it.

Chrysler Corp. has been doing it that way for 55 years that I know of. My cousin first encountered Chrysler's "captive market" way of doing business when I was about seven years old!!

They are electric, right?  Run a set of wires and install a switch. Take the other $145.00 and spend it on your Rat!!!

May end up doing that. Just disappointed that it won't have the auto on/off.

Congress just passed a law, not sure when it will take effect, that car/truck owners can now have the codes to fix there own vehicles after so many years (not sure on that either) this new bill came from farmers not being able to fix there own tractors and having to call the dealer to send a guy to the field to simply plug in a code.

I believe it was once a vehicle is two years old, you can fix it.  The argument was what did you buy when you bought the car/truck/tractor. proprietary information, who owns it?

Yup, I use that law to keep my iPhone jailbroken. I just made a deal with our dodge dealer to turn on my fog lights for $110.00 since they can't get me in until December. Since I installed a new headlight switch that allows me to use the fog lights, I am gonna spend the money to turn em on via the switch and computer.

Well after getting the fog lights turned on, my oil control valve failed. I ordered a new one, tore the upper intake off, installed the new valve. Seems good again. Whew.
