DECK LID POPPER
« on: January 08, 2014, 05:52:17 PM »
I set up my trunk lid with a Speedway Solenoid and it works O.K.
I want the lid to POP open, but solenoid just pulls latch, right? Lid just opens about 3/4", so I brought a couple of the SPRING poppers available on eBay, Moon, etc.
I know they will work I just have to locate one. Any suggestions?
Looks like I will have to fab a bracket for mounting.
Rod is a '51 Ford.
Thanks! :P

first, does it, or will it have a rubber seal around it? reason I ask is that those change the "pop"
down at the bottom for the pipers should give em enough pop, and won't fold the trunk when ya shut it.

BINGO! I forgot all about the additional thickness of the seal!!
There is NO seal there now. It was all rotten & crumbled, so I just scrapped away the little pieces.
I can see (imagine) where a new seal will spring the lid better, and all the way around.
Good one! Thanks Obama. :o

Just thought of someth'n more, is the battery going to be in the trunk, if so an hidden emergency cable is a good idea, or access from behind the seat, have a backup plan.

Battery is not in trunk (up front-stock location). Thanks for suggestion on back up pull cable.
Yes, I did that.
It added a couple more hours to project, but I read that suggestion in an old rod magazine.
I hate to admit I am getting lazy, but thought about consequences if battery went low or solenoid pull cable got out of adjustment, and went ahead and added  back up pull cable.
No regrets - Thanks again. :D
