lowboy that is so true.

Well when we took off to the Zoo show the temp gauge stayed at 165. That's 2 miles through town to I-70, About 50 miles to the Zoo. And when we get there the temp starts to rise while in the check-in line. After I get her parked up with the hood and look for a leak. I had a friend that was at the show, his car is the "Tubester", give me a hand in looking for the problem. He found where the radiator cap was not fitting tight and that all indications pointed to that being the problem. The cap is a 13# cap. He suggested that with this radiator that I go to a 16#. In the mean time he grabs a pair of vice grips and squeezes the 2 hold down tabs on the cap. Well it held good so that I could get back to town and buy another replacement cap.
Yesterday was the 1st day that I did any distance driving since Sunday. And with the 16# all held up.

Soooo I am hoping that this heating issue is finally solved. But I want to know is when to do purchase an up grade radiator is why don't the seller inform you that you will need ?????  It would sure save a lot of grief.

Good call by your friend. Most v8's should have a 16# cap.

It is always good to have a pair of "fresh" eye's look in.

And she is running good. Ran at 160 to 185 today. Put about 60 miles on her. Both city and the open road, two lane blacktop.

Still dealing with her running hot. Up to 200 in traffic. I think that my next step is to change the water pump. To be honest I don't remember if this is the  pump that came off of the 283 or not. But I think that I do need one that is a bit bigger to handle the load.

200 ain't that bad in traffic, especially when it cools down as you drive.

in the quest of trying to narrow down the 200 running temp I pulled it, and at this point have not returned it. I will put it back when I take her in for the heater core to be replaced, next week.

175* thermostate? or 165*? let us know how it goes. As I recall 16 pd cap, overflow tank close to radiator, good radiator, fan problems solved,  (more blades don't always help) good water flow no air in system, lower hose bigger than top hose, top hose not above radiator, fan close to radiator,,,,,,,,,and I'm sure I'm forgetting some more stuff, but you've been thru all that so,,,,,,,let us know how it works.
And check your wiper blade angle!!

Glad you got it rolling!!  It's always the little things that mess up a good day's work!! I went through the same sort of stuff with the fuel system on Lockjaw.
